Pharos was founded in 2003 by Stephen Yarrow, and has established itself as one of the foremost chamber choirs active in Kent today.
Singers were initially drawn from local operatic and choral societies, churches and schools, to perform the small-choir repertoire of madrigals, partsongs and popular song arrangements. The core of the choir in terms of personnel remains the same today, although singers have come and gone, and the choir has grown in size to its current twenty-four members.
It is a key policy of the choir to provide opportunities for gifted young singers to perform with a high-quality adult choir, and we currently have four or five sixth-formers or recent school leavers in our ranks. The experience this affords them prior to university application, or while setting out on a career in whatever discipline, is invaluable. If you have a talented child of 16 or over who is a competent music reader and loves to sing, please email us to ask for details.
The choir is extremely active, and has performed in the Canterbury Festival, Sandwich Guildhall, Dover Castle and countless East Kent churches and village halls. If you have an event needing a choir or group of singers, please click here for further information.
